I once tried to draw a straight line from one edge of the page to the other. But the moment my pencil touched the paper, the line wavered. It curved. It spiralled. It refused the simplicity I sought.

Perhaps all lines are like this. Even when we imagine them straight, our lives, our stories, our time, they eventually bend, twist, and return. There is no true end, only continuation, a pattern that refuses to stop. Every line is a spiral in disguise, an echo of motion and repetition, of cycles within cycles.

Consider the galaxies above. From here, they appear as points of light, scattered across the night. Yet each one spins, tracing endless loops, bending matter and energy in invisible curves. Or consider the tiniest things: a snail’s shell, a whirlpool, the folds of DNA. Even our own veins are spirals, carrying life along curved paths that never truly cease.

We try to impose endings on our stories. We mark chapters, anniversaries, deadlines. But the spiral laughs quietly at these attempts, reminding us that every ending folds back into a beginning. Every goodbye is a prelude to a hello; every dusk, a promise of dawn. The line we thought we followed was never straight. It only seemed so until we watched it bend.

There is mystery in that endlessness. Some curves are obvious, bold, and visible. Others are subtle, hidden in our routines, in memories, in thoughts we revisit without realising. Yet they all continue, drawing us along, shaping us, carrying us toward places we cannot predict. The line never truly ends because it is never a line at all; it is life itself, spiralling, looping, echoing, returning.

I close my eyes and imagine all the lines I’ve drawn in life. They twist and merge, form spirals, connect moments and people, stretch back into memory and forward into dreams. None of them are finished. None of them will ever be.

Lines, I realise, never end. They only continue, curling into infinity.
