Life is a spiral. From the smallest cell to the vast expanse of galaxies, the universe moves in curves, loops, and coils. Growth, change, and motion are not linear; they bend, return, and expand, creating patterns that are beautiful, complex, and infinite.
I watch a young plant unfurl its leaves. Each new growth curve outward, spiralling from the centre, mirroring the geometry of shells, flowers, and galaxies. Life itself seems to follow this pattern; we grow, return, and expand in ways that cannot be captured by a straight line.
The spiral of life is also a teacher. Each cycle carries lessons forward. Mistakes return in altered forms, joys reappear in unexpected ways, and relationships spiral, weaving connections across time. Every loop is both familiar and new, allowing us to deepen our understanding with each turn.
Nature demonstrates this endlessly. Rivers bend, trees grow in rings, storms twist in spirals, and oceans churn in eddies and gyres. Life’s energy is contained in motion, repetition, and return. Even in stillness, we move, internally, emotionally, spiritually, following spirals that are invisible yet undeniable.
The spiral offers comfort. Endings are not final; beginnings are not always immediate. Life folds back upon itself, creating continuity where we might see only chaos. Every breath, every thought, every heartbeat is part of this infinite motion, carrying the essence of life forward.
I trace the spiral of a shell I hold in my hand and see my own life reflected in its curves. The spiral of life is unending. It carries us, teaches us, and transforms us. And we move within it, always spiralling, always growing, always alive.
